This is an elegantly designed safety gate which has no bar at the bottom, so it’s ideal if you want to avoid the trip hazard associated with some safety gates.

It’s retractable, which means the entire gate can be folded away easily between use – handy for use at a relative’s house where you might not want the safety gate in place all the time. You can also lock it in position, either open or closed.

It can be opened with one hand, although our testers found it easier to operate with both hands. It’s noisy to operate, though, and expensive.

Vicky Daly, 34, from Cheshire, is mum to Finn, 16 months. She says:  ‘The most visually-appealing gate tested, but it’s so noisy when retracting – not very useful when carrying a sleeping baby to bed.’

Sarah Lovett, 33, from West Sussex, is mum to Philip, one. She says: ‘Expensive, and fiddly to fit, but blends in so beautifully – you barely notice it. I loved the roller-blind-style retract feature too.’

Laura Crumbley, 25, from Wigan, is mum to Finton, 18 months. She says: ‘I love the retractable feature and the fabric gate – very forgiving if your child bumps her head on it. But I found it fiddly to operate.’
