Mother & Baby 2018 Shortlist

At a glance:

The Aveeno Baby Daily Care Range appealed to our panel of mum testers because it is ‘au naturel’ and has a beautifully subtle scent. We love the pump bottle, making it easy to use whilst holding onto a slipper baby.

What they say:

“Gentle everyday care for baby skin. Specially formulated for babies’ sensitive skin with colloidal oatmeal. The AVEENO® Daily Care range gently nourishes and protects babies skin.”

Would you recommend this to other mums?

Yes, it is a very nice product. It's easy to use, the bottles have convenient pumps and they are a good size. The product smells nice and has a nice texture and most importantly, it did not cause any adverse effects to my daughter's skin - quite the opposite, it left it soft and nourished. I would recommend this product to a fellow mum, especially to one with a baby who had sensitive or allergy prone skin.

How did this product make your life easier?

It is a nice product and very easy to use and it left my daughter's skin lovely and soft and definitely made the bath time easier and more pleasant for both of us. I did feel though that not all the products in the range where absolute must haves, and the baby wash and baby lotion where all we needed really.

Would you choose this product to win?

I would definitely buy some of the products from the range again, in particular the baby wash and the lotion, however I found some products such as the baby milk a little unnecessary. It is especially good if you have a baby with delicate skin or prone to allergies, however if your baby has normal skin then it might be a bit pricey for basic day to day care.

What changes would you make to this product?

I would like it to be a bit cheaper. Also, I felt that not all of the products in the range where must haves. Another small grumble is that the product was not really available in any of my local shops, such as Boots.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would absolutely recommend these products to a fellow mum. They are better than any other forms of skin care I have used so far with obvious results. The products are very good quality as you only need a minimal amount when using them.  A little goes a long way, which makes the products last longer and the bottle sizes are very good. My son had very rough skin on his face as a newborn and after using the cleansing milk morning and night, his skin is now soft, smooth and looks healthy.

How did this product make your life easier?

This makes life easier as it makes a difference to my baby’s skin for the better, therefore no need to constantly try other products that don’t make a difference. As the products are so good, my applications are less frequent as the skin becomes healthier. Bath time has become easier using these products as we now have a routine with the Aveeno products, and there are no more tears! The pump on the hair and body wash is very handy and I found the cleansing milk very useful as it can be used to remove dirt without having a full bath.

Would you choose this product to win?

I think this product should win above all others as it is soap free unlike many others. It is also tear free which is a must have with a baby. The product has a very nice subtle scent that is not overbearing like other popular brands.

What changes would you make to this product?

The only thing I would change about this product is the price. If you are only buying one product out of the whole range then it’s reasonable, but if you want to use the whole range it is quite expensive. That said, although it is expensive, they do last longer as you don’t use the same quantity as cheaper brands.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend these products due to the huge range as there is a product designed for every eventuality to make life easier. The products themselves are hypoallergenic and are suitable for all babies including newborns, they smell lovely and have a nice texture, the bath wash lathers up well and the moisturiser soaks in without leaving the baby all slimy.

How did this product make your life easier?

The easy to open bottles, that are large enough to grab and dispense with one hand definitely make life with a newborn easier. There is also a large range of products so you can find one that best suits you.

Would you choose this product to win?

Yes, I would choose this product over others on the market as it is designed with babies in mind, has natural ingredients and is hypoallergenic, they leave my baby's skin soft and smelling lovely without drying it out. The bottles are a good size to grab, and are easy to dispense. The design is also appealing, as the colours reflect the products natural ingredients.

What changes would you make to this product?

Although having a large product range is a positive as you can pick and choose which product you want, it is also a negative as it can be confusing to which products you need. I tried the whole range and although I like them all, I didn't really need all of them at once. I will only be replacing a couple of the products once they run out.

The moisturiser is amazing, it has cleared up my little ones dry skin and is quickly absorbed. All the products smell lovely but are not overpowering and don't distract from my baby’s natural newborn smell! The packaging is nice too and doesn't look out of place with my adult products in the bathroom.

How did this product make your life easier?

The cleansing milk is fantastic – it has meant on non-bath days my little one gets a good wash and feels fresh with no need for water. An added bonus is I can use it as well!  The other products are good too, but they don't make my life any easier than similar products as they do the same job, whereas I don't know any other brand that does a baby cleansing milk.

Would you choose this product to win?

I would choose this product above all others as it looks nice in my bathroom, it smells lovely and the cleansing milk is a product I haven't seen anywhere else and I really like it. The only issue is it’s quite a bit more expensive than similar products I have seen on the market.

What changes would you make to this product?

If I could change one thing about this product it would be the cost. It is over three times the price of similar products in the market. When it is a product you buy regularly this could make it unaffordable, which is a shame as it's such a high-quality product that I would like to purchase on regular occasion.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

As a mum to a newborn, I am exceedingly conscious of what I put on her skin. Up until using these to test, we had only used warm water and cotton wool with the odd bit of nappy cream. Since trying these products, we are completely converted. The hair and body wash is so easy to use, it’s gentle on her skin and she seems to love having it massaged into her hair or rubbed around her neck which were particularly tricky areas before. I’m pleased with how effective they are both at getting her clean and softening her skin. A little goes a long way which makes them more cost effective.

How did this product make your life easier?

The products are effective and gentle on a newborn baby’s skin, we really love the moisturising lotion. The amazing quality sorted my daughter’s scaly feet in 48 hours. The barrier cream turns any slightly pink skin in the nappy area back to a normal colour in a single nappy change. The pump action top on the hair and body wash makes it really easy to use when you’re holding a slippery baby in the bath. With all the products, it seems that a little goes a long way. You only need a tiny bit to achieve the desired results. They all leave her skin (and mine when I tried it) feeling soft and smooth. The lotion, cream and cleansing milk all have a particularly pleasant smell to them.

Would you choose this product to win?

I hadn’t really tried other baby skincare products before so it is difficult to say how it is better than others – I am amazed at how effective the products are though. My daughter had scaly feet from about ten days after birth, breastmilk helped but didn’t clear it up, Sudocream helped too but again it was still there. In 24 hours, the Aveeno Baby Moisturising lotion cleared all the scaly skin on her feet. We are now trying to apply it to the peeling bits on her scalp to prevent it turning to cradle cap. With all the products a little goes a long way. This is great as it’s cost effective but can make it easy to get out too much, especially with the barrier cream.

What changes would you make to this product?

I wish the moisturising lotion, gentle baby wash and the cleansing milk had pump action heads too – this would make them much easier to use when in the bath, or trying to keep hold of a baby. The measured amounts of product would help because I often felt like I was squeezing out too much. The instructions on the cleansing milk need to be more obvious as I was using it in the bath for a week before I found out I was meant to apply it with cotton wool to the skin like cleanser. It seems obvious now but with baby brain, it really wasn’t! The barrier cream is fabulous – I wish it came in a small tube version (lipstick size) to put in my nappy bag!
