Weleda Baby Calendula Skincare is made from completely natural ingredients, with a pleasant lavender fragrance. Its range is extensive and full of products primed to help sensitive skin. So, we've enlisted some of our testers to investigate the Weleda Baby Calendula Skincare range - and to see if it is really worth purchasing.

Why is a skincare routine so important for your baby?

Babies skin is different to an adult's. For example, your little ones' skin is five times thinner than yours. Plus, changes to the environment, their development and health can affect the quality of their skin. These can include:

• Teething

• Dribbling

• Exposure to cold

• Allergies

• Environmental stress

Therefore, your little ones' skin will need extra support. According to Weleda, a skincare routine "can help support your baby's skin through these changes, helping to harmonise and protect the skin - whilst allowing it to regulate itself."

Natural Ingredients

Weleda's raw materials are sourced ethically and sustainably. Over 80 per cent of Weleda's certifiable raw materials are from organic cultivation. By using plant oils, this range can be easily absorbed and metabolised by the skin. Here, there is nourishment. In this range, the products contain organic almond oil, nourishing lanolin and a soothing extract of organic calendula. To sum up, this range are a winning combination of soft, nourishing plant oils.

Moisturising

According to Weleda's studies, their products increase skin moisture, leaving your little one's skin protected and soft. With the Intensive Body Cream, the ingredients target dry areas and protect the skin from any moisture loss. Weleda combines active ingredients – such as plant extracts, essential oils and seed oils – to optimally meet the skin’s needs.

So, they know their stuff!

Testing the Weleda Calendula Skincare Range

We've created the help of Ashley and Caroline.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

Ashley: This product range is a great addition to bathtime. It’s easy to use and smells delicious. The flip lid makes it easy to use one-handed which is a must when you have a baby in the water. The bath and body wash foams up well and I have used it all over my baby’s body and he seems to really love it. His skin smells lovely once he is out.

Caroline: I think this baby shampoo and body wash is lovely. It has an amazing smell of all the wonderful natural ingredients. It feels very soft on your skin and baby’s skin, plus my three-year-old also loves it and it has been great for her dry scalp and skin. It also leaves the skin feeling very clean but not stripped of the skin’s natural goodness.

How did this product make your life easier?

Ashley: The bath and body wash are so easy to use and smell gorgeous. The flip lid makes life easier as there is nothing worth than trying to twist off a cap whilst your hands are wet. It’s also great as you only need one hand to use when squirting the product on a sponge. The product foams up well and is lovely to use.

Caroline: It is great to find a product that you know is gentle and kind to very delicate baby skin. It is fairly easy to flick the lid open and squeeze some out with one hand but you do have to be careful that not too much comes out at once. My toddler seems to like the smell and feel of it on her hair which does help for a smooth bath time!

Would you choose this product to win?

Ashley: I have used a few different bath products now since my son was born and this product is definitely something that I will be re-purchasing. My son’s skin feels clean and smells refreshing. He hasn’t reacted to it in any way.

Caroline: I do love the fact that this is "certified natural baby care" and that it has such a lovely smell and feel on the skin. Unfortunately, you do have to pay quite a bit for this, but as I do believe it would help prevent dryness the money you spend on this extra to some washes you will probably save on moisturiser.

What changes would you make to this product?

Ashley: I don’t feel like there is anything I would change about this product. It works well and smells lovely.

Caroline: To help make sure not a drop is wasted on this product (to help you feel you are getting as much product for your money) it would probably benefit from a slightly different top that doesn't let too much product out at once. Although it is fairly easy to use one-handed it could be easier and come out the tube a little slower to curb use.

What's in the Weleda Baby Calendula Skincare range?

Shampoo and Body Wash - economical, leaving skin and hair clean and soft.

Massage Oil - not too greasy and absorbs well.

Body Lotion - absorbs well, too, leaving skin soft.

Face Cream - makes a lovely addition, not sure necessary it is for a baby.

Bath Cream - doesn’t dissolve easily but it does leave the baby’s skin feeling moisturised.

Nappy Cream - protects and nourishes the skin of the nappy area.

All Purpose Balm - is the tiny tin with big benefits!

Calming Bath - is perfect for a relaxing soak.

Intensive Body Cream - protects baby skin from drying up and chafing.

Skin Protection Balm - works best in harsher weather.

Soap - is the kindest choice for sensitive skin.

Though the products are a little expensive, a good idea would be to choose the ones you like best and invest in those.
