Mother & Baby 2018 Shortlist

At a glance:

We love the bright and colourful designs of the Bambino Mio reusable nappies. With a soft and silky feel, our mums loved the soft and silky feel of the nappies and found they had no leaks or irritated skin. That said, it’s pretty bulky under clothes, but all in all a great little nappy.

What they say:

“The award-winning Miosolo is a simple, stylish and super soft all-in-one reusable nappy which is as easy to use as a disposable! The nappy is onesize, meaning it will grow with your baby from birth to potty training. The size of the nappy can be changed, using the adjustable poppers and hook and loop fastenings to suit the shape of your little one. The concealed super absorbent core and stay-dry inner layer keep moisture away from your baby's delicate skin, leaving it cool and dry. Available in a range of funky colours & designs.”

Tested by mum Georgina Pybus for the Mother & Baby awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

Yes, this nappy is very convenient, clean and comfortable for baby. It's a much cheaper alternative to regular, disposable nappies in the long run. The designs are great, come in so many varieties and have a silky feel to them.

How did this product make your life easier?

This Miosolo is easy to put on a wriggling baby as the material is so strong and easy to manoeuvre. We used to hate the Velcro straps on disposable nappies as they would get caught and rip off as baby was moving so much. The fact that this is an all-in-one nappy makes such a difference.

Would you choose this product to win?

I personally prefer disposable nappies because I feel that they are more hygienic and less time consuming to use. Us mums have very little time on our hands, so we can’t always afford to be washing nappies and waiting for them to dry. That said, I still really liked this nappy and understand that it is much better for the environment!

What changes would you make to this product?

The Miosolo was not hugely absorbent, it often didn’t last through the night, which was inconvenient as it meant wet sheets to clean. Also, as it was my first time using a reusable nappy, I didn’t feel that there was enough guidance provided and it took me a while to work out how to use it.

Tested by mum Alex Pieniak for the Mother & Baby awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend this product to another mum – it is excellent! It’s soft and gentle and has become my preference over disposable nappies. My baby’s skin is so much better off as a result. There is no risk of chemicals coming into contact with delicate skin and due to the material, no risk of the nappy ripping, which is great!

How did this product make your life easier?

I had never tried a reusable nappy before, so I was sceptical initially, but this product has made such a difference to my daughter. She has sensitive skin and was struggling with redness and irritation from disposable nappies. This product is so soft and gentle on her skin that the soreness disappeared from the outset. Much happier baby!

Would you choose this product to win?

I haven’t tried other reusable nappies so I can only base my opinion on how I felt using this brand. I feel that this nappy matches up, if not exceeds the expectations I had about disposable nappies and I prefer to use this product now! Therefore, I feel it should win its category.

What changes would you make to this product?

The product is fairly bulky compared to other nappies available, which is an issue as clothes with less elasticity don’t fit very well.

Tested by mum Claire Pirie for the Mother & Baby awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend this product to mums who are environmentally conscious and who are looking for cost effective products for their children. It is super soft, easy to use, has a funky bright design and is easily washed and dried. My daughter didn’t have a case of nappy rash once when using this nappy.

How did this product make your life easier?

This product is very easy to put on and is wonderfully soft to the touch, which I felt was very important. However, it was a little inconvenient when out for the day as once it was wet, it had to be bagged up and kept in the changing bag until we got home. This seemed like a lot of work compared to disposable nappies. But the nappy washed easily enough and dried quicker than I expected and we had zero leakages.

Would you choose this product to win?

As far as reusable nappies go, this product is far superior to the traditional style reusable nappies or ‘terry towelling’. Its ease of application was a standout feature and I loved the pretty design. I also think it is reasonably priced and its ability to grow with the child was testament to its possible longevity! We also had no leakages or nappy rash.

What changes would you make to this product?

The one thing I would change about this product would be its bulkiness. Compared to others I have seen on the market, my petite thirteen-month-old looked a little dwarfed by the nappy and it was hard to get clothes to fit.

Tested by mum Bethany Pope for the Mother & Baby awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I'm not sure I would recommend this to all my friends, however the design and the build is very good. It is very easy to use, however I think it is slightly less hygienic than a disposable nappy. They are also quite big and therefore not very easily transported. This product would be a very good idea which a few changes.

How did this product make your life easier?

I like the idea of this product, however I found it quite hard to use as it was so big that clothes wouldn’t fit over the top. But, the idea of only having a certain number of nappies that you re-use is much more practical and environmentally friendly, plus they are so easy to wash.

Would you choose this product to win?

I wouldn't choose this product above all the others. Even though it was easy to wash, a stain remained on the nappy material which I found unhygienic. This is not for me but I can certainly see the benefits for other more environmentally conscious people.

What changes would you make to this product?

I would change a few things about this nappy. Firstly, I would make this product smaller and easier to fit under other clothes, and I would make it in different sizes as the 'one size fits all' doesn't apply when it comes to babies of all different shapes and sizes.

Tested by mum Hannah Price for the Mother & Baby awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend this product as I think the nappies are easy to use and dry quickly – much better than other reusable nappies I have tried. My son has breathing problems and these nappies were so much softer then disposable nappies. The designs are great and make them look so different. The build is fantastic with support around the legs and extra support up the back to stop leaks. My son has used these for six months and never once leaked out.

How did this product make your life easier?

You can never run out of nappies when using reusables – you simply just wash them and they are clean for the next use. Stains come out easily on a 40-degree wash and as the liner comes out, it makes drying quicker too. The process of changing nappies is so much more enjoyable now with this soft material and I love how versatile they are – we will use them from newborn all the way up to grown toddler as they are just so cost efficient.

Would you choose this product to win?

Yes! They are super cost effective and the company have really thought about the design to make sure there are no leaks or accidents, which is great for parents.

What changes would you make to this product?

The only downside to this nappy would be carrying it around when full, on a day out. I can’t see a way round this with reusable nappies though.

Tested by mum Sarah Knightley for the M&B Awards 2017:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

Opening this set of nappies, I really liked the designs including kolas, toucans and bears. They are suitable for boys or girls and feel really soft and good quality. They washed well and still felt really soft. The nappies seemed to hold a large amount of liquid and stayed dry on a trip out and about wth no smell.

How did this product make your life easier?

The nappies have a line that is attached to the outer nappy wrap and made washing and putting the nappy back together so easy. There is even a tab you can grab so you don't have to put your whole hand in and less washing to hang up. Using reusuable nappies also makes me feel good as Im not contributing to landfill and no chemicals in contact with my baby’s skin.

Would you choose this product to win?

I feel this is a good quality reusable nappy that is suitable for newbies and regular cloth nappy users as they are simple to use. The designs are cute and something that you want to show off unlike disposable nappies. They seem to last well and would be interested in purchasing more. I think they would persuase people to switch to cloth nappies at least occasionally.

What changes would you make to this product?

Although the nappies came with instructions there was no fitting guide and I did find it a bit trial and error when it came to fitting. When it was too tight, it left marks on baby and when it was too loose I had some leaks. This probably improves with practice but not everyone will have used reusable nappies before and so this would helpful.

Tested by mum Nancy Cullinane for the M&B Awards 2017:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

Firstly they look amazing, they are available in various prints and colours which makes them instantly attractive. I'd certainly recommend them to fellow mums who are already using cloth as they are soft, very absorbent, and the fit is great, they also wash really well. I'd also recommend them to my friends who aren't using reusable nappies but want to give it a try because they are so easy to use, suitable from birth to potty they are fool proof, making a massive saving in the long run too.

How did this product make your life easier?

One of the brilliant things about the all in one reuseable nappy is how much money it will save you as a family in the long run. After the initial start up cost you don't have to spend any more, unlike disposables that you have to constantly purchase and change the size you buy as baby grows. These will see you from start to finish on babies nappy journey, they can then be used for the next baby too. Anything that saves families money is a real winner and makes life that little bit easier.

Would you choose this product to win?

We've found the all in one Miosolo to be reliable, comfortable and easy to use. They wash well, are very absorbent when laundry instructions have been followed correctly and look amazing on baby. The brilliant thing about the all in one is that it is suitable from start to finish, it will fit a newborn to your toddler that's nearly ready to start potty training, then on to the next baby. They do take up a fair bit of room in my change bag, but it's room I'm willing to make!

What changes would you make to this product?

If there was anyway to make them a little less bulky without compromising on absorbency they would be perfect. They do take up a fair bit of room in my changing bag, I have two boys in nappies and therefore space is limited. I have also noticed some of my son’s leggings are quite tight around the bum, so certain clothes don't fit as well with them.

Tested by mum Fiona Craig for the M&B Awards 2017:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend these to any of my friends that are considering trying cloth nappies. The Miosolo All-in-One Nappies are easy to use because they come in all-in-one and not separate bits. Being a novice cloth nappy user I was worried about this, but I used them and they soaked up really well and no leaks.

Would you choose this product to win?

For a first-time user these nappies are easy to use very absorbent and they are very nice looking, with brilliant designs and plenty of them - so you can have a different cute bum all through the day. The Miosolo All-in-One Nappyies have made me become a cloth bum mum as are nicer than disposables.

What changes would you make to this product?

I don't think there is anything I would need to change about Miosolo All-in-One Nappies as for a new user to cloth nappies I found them very easy to use, I loved the different designs on them and they make a baby’s bum look even cuter.

Tested by mum Leia Dunkling for the M&B Awards 2017:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would definitely recommend these to other mums. I used to use disposables and would never go back. They are so easy to use, much more affordable and as they are one size they don't need buying all the time when baby grows. They're easy to change and wash, much lighter when travelling to different places. We have much less accidents and don't have to change so often.

How did this product make your life easier?

Before using these nappies my baby used to leak through disposables, we tried every brand, going up sizes and he used to ruin all of his brand new clothes so having cloth nappies have solved his problem. They also don't need changing every 2 minutes because they feel full. Baby also looks much more comfortable in these nappies.

Would you choose this product to win?

I have saved a lot of money on nappies after using the Miosolo All-in-One Nappy. My baby has nowhere near as many accidents, they're so much easier to use and put on than disposable nappies. The colourful designs make it more fun for baby as they get older so nappy changing can be more enjoyable.

What changes would you make to this product?

I would offer more variety of designs, rather than mainly unisex have some boy and some girl. Also character pattern ones would be nice for toddlers as it's hard enough to get them to have a nappy change! The price is reasonable and also like to see more starter pack and bundles of them rather than having to buy them individually.

Tested by mum Aimee Hawke for the M&B Awards 2016:

Why would you recommend this product to a friend/fellow mum?

I really love these nappies, they look beautiful and are very well designed. They make nappy changes more fun as the prints are beautiful, I especially liked the circus print.  They are easy to use as you just stuff the attached insert into the pocket. I liked the fact they were attached and there is an option to add an extra insert for night times.  The velcro worked very well for me as it was quick and easy to get a good fit.

How does this product make your life easier as a mum?

I think that these nappies are a really good option for any one considering using reusable nappies. They are easy to use and are very user friendly, especially for anyone new to reusables.  They are good for the environment and will save you money if you use them regularly, using reusables has definitely helped the amount of waste we put into our waste bin.  They were also very easy to wash and did not take long to dry outside on the line.

If you could change one thing about this product what would it be?

Why would you recommend this product to a friend/fellow mum?

We loved this nappy! This one is really great all rounder and ticked all our boxes. It’s a good fit, really easy to use, highly absorbent and looks funky! This would be a fab choice for a first time cloth user, the sizing is generous enough to last well into toddlerhood, and this nappy would be a one stop solution from birth to potty for most families.

How does this product make your life easier as a mum?

It’s super easy to use this product. If you want to use cloth nappies without too much fuss and nonsense then these ones would be a great choice. They are easy to fit, and we found you can whip on on in seconds and not get any leaks – no tweaking required. Easy to use – these ones even passed the reluctant daddy test! They are great for babies bum, with a stay dry inner, a soft outer and easy to place Velcro fastening. We still had plenty of room in this nappy too, my daughter fitted it with the rise still snapped down to the middle setting – loads of future growing room!

If you could change one thing about this product what would it be?

The only thing I would change is the Velcro, the corners curl and if my baby isn’t wearing a vest that poppers underneath the sharp edges rub on her thighs when she sits. Usually we have a vest on which covers this but the designs on some of these nappies are so cute I would like to show them off sometimes by not using a poppered vest, but I don’t want her legs getting sore.

Why would you recommend this product to a friend/fellow mum?

Great patterns - my 18 month old always chooses these for the fun prints.

How does this product make your life easier as a mum?

Easy to fit on, even for people who are not used to cloth (like grandparents). Easy to wash, tabs make life easier as wet insert pulls out.

Tested by mum Kim Gelling for the M&B Awards 2016:

Why would you recommend this product to a friend/fellow mum?

The Bambino Mio nappies tick all the boxes!  Firstly they are very absorbent - yet are also the most slim-fitting real nappy we've tried, (so there's less of a John Wayne look!).  What also sets this nappy apart from the rest, is how well it fits around little one's tummy, bottom and legs; which means its easy to put on and much less chance of leaks.  I like how neatly the nappy folds and fits together (the booster for night times also tucks neatly away) which means that nappy-changes are easier as the nappy stays in one piece - despite fidgeting and kicking little legs!  The nappy is very soft inside (despite numerous washes) and stays absorbent for longer than its competitors. The Bambino Mio designs are suuuuper cute, with a range of patterns to promote talking points at nappy-changing time, (my favourite is the cheeky monkeys!)  Bambino Mio also offer a great range of nappy accessories to get you started on your journey using real nappies.

How does this product make your life easier as a mum?

The Bambino-Mio nappies wash and dry very well, and because they are very absorbent with snug fitting elastic (which doesn't rub delicate skin) around the legs and back, it means little accidents are few and far between.

If you could change one thing about this product what would it be?

It takes slightly longer to dry than some other nappies on the market, however the absorbency is that much better - I don't mind!

Tested by mum Winnie Wegner for the M&B Awards 2016:

Why would you recommend this product to a friend/fellow mum?

The company is amazing, they started by treating me to the option to pick my own style of nappies that I wanted to review. Once it arrived, the quality is superb, I had no problem in the fitting, absorbance or putting it together as it came with instructions.   The company also followed it by contact via e-mail to as me if I had any questions.

How does this product make your life easier as a mum?

It makes it easy on a mum knowing they can trust a company not just to deliver a product but a product that does what it says it does.

If you could change one thing about this product what would it be?

Bring out a wider design range as I loves their designs but I am sure they can come up with more.

Tested by mum Leah Nicole Rabbett for the M&B Awards 2016:

Why would you recommend this product to a friend/fellow mum?

Really lovely designs and great quality, loved the velcro, so easy to adjust. Great absorbency. No leaks, easy to put together and dries quickly. Really enjoyed these nappies.  Great fit on my two toddlers. I was skeptical at first but I found myself really enjoying these.

How does this product make your life easier as a mum?

Save so much money on these rather than throw away nappies, I didn't think i would enjoy them as much as I did. Really easy to put together and wash, dries quick. Some other brands ive found take quite long to dry.

If you could change one thing about this product what would it be?

I really enjoyed these and with a bit of a newbie I don't think these need improvement.

Tested by mum Naomi White for the M&B Awards 2016:

Why would you recommend this product to a friend/fellow mum?

The print on the PUL's are very cute, they are easy to wash and quick drying.  My little one has managed to leak through on a few occasions though.   The velcro fastening is strong though as my toddler has managed to undo some velcro on similar designs.

How does this product make your life easier as a mum?

Easy to wash and dry, quick drying, super cute designs make me want to put these one the nappy.

If you could change one thing about this product what would it be?

The liners are really large so have to fold them. Extra inserts would have been helpful to boost absorbency.
