Caboo +Organic Sling Review

The Caboo +organic is a well-designed, compact (therefore easy to store), comfortable baby sling option for mums and dads who not only enjoy close cuddles but need ‘free hands’ to get on with their day. The carrier, made from 100% cotton, offers five different carry positions, including nursing/cradle and forward-facing.

It might take a few attempts to get the ‘sling action’ right, even with instructions, but once you’ve got it, wrapping your baby around you will become second nature.

It’s simple to adjust, feels very secure, and the wide shoulder straps distribute your baby’s weight evenly, making this extra comfortable. It works well for breastfeeding and is suitable for use with babies and toddlers, so it’s good value.

Tested by Amy Connolly, from Cornwall, mum to Bodhi, five months. She said:

This sling is by far my favourite of all those we tested. I love how secure it feels and how easy it is to put on – it’s so much more practical than struggling with tying a wrap sling. It’s extremely comfortable to wear and Bodhi seems very cosy and warm in this, so it’s just perfect for our long wintery walks.

Tested by Kirsty Graydon, from Angus, mum to Charlie, six months, and Finlay, three. She said:

This is my favourite sling. Once threaded together, it’s easy to put on, and really simple to adjust and tighten – even when Charlie is in it. I really like that I can take Charlie out of this one and continue wearing it, without it getting in the way. It’s very comfortable to wear and the fabric is lovely and light, too.

Tested by Hazel Newhouse, from Bedfordshire, mum to Ivy, 18 months. She said:

What an amazing sling! It’s super-comfortable on my back and shoulders – even for long periods – and so light and easy to use. It looks great, too. Ivy slept well in this sling and it’s easy to breastfeed in. The only downside is that you can’t use it for back-carrying baby, although it’s suitable for hip carrying as he gets older.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

The Caboo +Organic was very straightforward to use. It came with the fabric already through the rings so all I needed to do was put it over my head and tighten the fabric slightly, put baby in and tie the other piece of fabric around. I found it comfortable to wear and felt high quality. I'm not sure how much support the extra piece of fabric provides though.

How did this product make your life easier?

It means that I have my hands free to do things while still carrying my baby. My baby sleeps best in a sling so it means less crying from him and more peace and quiet for me! I still take the pram out with me but the sling is like an insurance policy incase my baby won't settle lying down. He has a bit of reflux so it's good for him to stay upright.

Would you choose this product to win?

I do really like the Caboo +Organic. It is made of breathable fabric, feels good quality and is easy to use. It is especially good for younger babies as it almost swaddles them so gives the feeling of security in the beginning. I don't feel that it would be as supportive for a heavier baby as the extra piece of fabric doesn't seem to do much.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I absolutely love this product! It is amazingly comfortable and every time I have used it so far my 3 month old has fallen fast asleep in it and stayed that way for ages! She must be comfortable and certainly looks it. The material is lovely and soft yet strong and she feels incredibly secure in it. Although it's a little tricky to get used to once I did it became much easier to get on. I really like how easy it is to adjust and that it creates a "bag" for storage when not in use. Fantastic!

How did this product make your life easier?

I used this on a week long trip to Cornwall and it was a absolutely essential for our trips to the beach and costal walks. I used it every day and in fact didn't get the pushchair out once, as I preferred this carrier. It's design is very simple and straightforward. I like that the harness can be worn when the carrier is not in use which is very handy for tranportation. It also folds away neatly into its own "bag" for storage. I am a mum of three and have found this to be invaluable.

Would you choose this product to win?

Its simple design lends itself to ease of use once you master the instructions! It's extremely comfortable for both baby and the wearer and is versatile so it can be passed between wearers without the need to adjust a variety of straps which you sometimes get on other carriers. Its functionality makes it stand out for me and it has longevity with various carrying positions. It is fantastic value for money and I absolutely adore this product,

What changes would you make to this product?

The written instructions are not as easy to follow as I would like and for some reason I struggled to understand exactly what I needed to do with them alone. Having said that however the online videos are extremely easy to follow so I would suggest either signposting them in the literature which comes with the carrier or perhaps including a DVD or a downloadable video clip demonstrating the way to use the carrier. I certainly found the visual tutorial invaluable.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

Yes I would. Initially it's quite fiddly but there are lots of YouTube tutorials which helps you get to grips with it fairly quickly. It's lovely and soft, easy to transport with its little carry bag and easy to wash. It's a very versatile sling although my chunky 14-week-old wasn't overly keen on being super snuggled against me in the warmer weather. I think they are brilliant for newborns and promote bonding from the very beginning.

How did this product make your life easier?

Enables you to be completely hands free to get on with day to day tasks whilst baby is secure and snug against you. Brilliant if you're baby is having a clingy day and just wants to be close to mum. I was able to get on and tidy my house and I was happy that my baby was happy. I exclusively express for my baby but I think it's brilliant that you can also breastfeed whilst baby is in it.

Would you choose this product to win?

I do prefer a slightly more structured carrier now my baby is bigger. I think it's a wonderful sling that has all the pros of a stretchy sling but is much more user friendly as its pre tied which makes it very quick to use once you're used to it. I know it can be used for older, heavier babies but I think it's very suited to a newborn over an older baby.

What changes would you make to this product?

I found that the second part of the sling (which doubles as the carry bag) seems to loosen quite quickly. I'm not sure if there would be a way to make it more secure but I found I had to keep re tying it. Other than that I think it's a well designed sling that's nice and easy to use once you get the hang of it.

Tested by mum Helen Grimley for the M&B Awards 2017:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

This sling was essential for me in the first three months of my baby's life. It's very easy to use and comfortable. It's also weight tested to a low weight, which was great for me as my baby was prem. It folds easily and is light and easy to transport. The material is soft and stretchy, perfect for holding baby close to you.

How did this product make your life easier?

My baby did not want to be put down in the early days. This sling enabled me to get things done while keeping baby close to me. Baby was very comfortable and would sleep well in the sling, he instantly felt calmer when able to feel my heartbeat. This sling was a life saver in the first three months of adjusting to motherhood.

What changes would you make to this product?

I wouldn't change anything about this product, it does everything it should.

Tested by mum Joanne Handy for the M&B Awards 2017:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

The quality was very good and seems a good price point to reflect the fact its a hybrid between a structured carrier and a wrap. The fabric was also the softest of all the carriers I reviewed, making it even more comfortable. The product was ok to use, in terms of putting it on, once you had a couple of tries.

How did this product make your life easier?

Although slightly tricky to put on at first, it gave the option of a mix of structure carrier for support for the wearer crossed with the comfort of a fabric wrap style carrier. It was also good that I could use this carrier in multiple positions, something that is good for the longevity of the product and provides good value for money.

What changes would you make to this product?

Better instructions on how to put it on for your first go, perhaps a youtube video would be quite good, as that's how I seem to find information on how everything works these days. But apart from that I loved this carrier so I wouldn't change anything else (or maybe a storage bag for it to come in?).
