Panorama Digital Video Monitor

At a glance:

Our panel of mum testers loved the peace of mind of being able to see their baby at bedtime, and the ability to link more than one camera to the huge screen on the parent portal. That said, the Summer Infant Panorama Digital Video Monitor does not have the lullabies and white noise option offered on similar products on the market.

What they say:

"The Panorama Digital Video Baby Monitor offers a large 5” colour LCD screen with a pan, tilt and zoom camera allowing you to remotely control the camera to keep a moving baby in view.  Packed with features the monitor includes an onscreen nursery temperature display, automatic night vision, two-way talkback and a blue and red soft glow nightlight."

Would you recommend this to other mums?

This monitor is great for keeping an eye on your little one when they are sleeping, saving you needing to be constantly listening out. The pan/tilt option means you are able to follow where your baby is and I love the talk-back feature allowing me to settle my baby without going in to the room. The battery lasts longer than other monitors I’ve tried ad being able to connect four cameras to the one screen is a great option for parents with more than one child.

How has this product made your life easier?

This product means I am able to get on with my day and not worry about my baby when she’s sleeping. I can watch her to see when she completely settles, making it easier to see how long she has been napping for. It also means I am able to talk to my little one without going into the room.

Would you choose this product to win?

I love that this product has a lot of different features such as the nightlight, two-way talkback and the ability to pan or tilt the camera. The screen quality is fantastic and it makes viewing your child at night a lot easier.

What changes would you make to this product?

I think that this monitor is missing the option to play lullabies or white noise into the baby’s room. This is a feature I always look for when buying a monitor as my little one likes to listen to lullabies to help her settle. I’ve also found white noise can help her fall back to sleep, so it would be great if the monitor had the ability to do this too.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend this product to a friend or fellow mum as it is very easy to set up and use. It has some great features including a nightlight in red or blue, a huge panoramic span of the room which although isn’t really necessary with a small baby, I can imagine would be a great feature for mums with twins or toddlers who are on the move. The screen size on the parent portal is great and the picture quality is amazing and I found the battery life to be really good.

How has this product made your life easier?

The product makes my life easier as a mum as it has a video camera which means I can see what my baby is doing as well as hear them. I can see if he is getting restless or fussing for his dummy and get to him quicker before he starts crying.

I currently have the Motorola MBP36 which I actually prefer to the Panorama Digital Video Monitor. I think the Panorama Digital Video Monitor is quite big and if I wanted to use this going away it would be quite bulky to pack. There is also no lullaby feature on this which other video monitors have, although it does have the two-way talkback feature which I like.

What changes would you make to this product?

To improve this product, I would make the sound activated LED lights a little more sensitive, as my baby has to be crying or making a lot of noise to activate the lights. Obviously when I’m using the monitor at night and the camera is off I rely on seeing the lights flashing and would prefer to get up to him while he’s still reasonably settled.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

Absolutely yes! Other video monitors on the market do not compare to the image and sound quality you get with this monitor. The ability to pan around the room and zoom in and out is amazing. I love the fact that it has a temperature light too as you can see at a glance if the room is too hot or cold.

How has this product made your life easier?

The video monitor is fantastic! The picture is of very good quality and the fact that you can zoom in and out and pan around the room is a good feature. The monitor provides me with peace of mind as a mother, I can take the video screen around the house with me and see my little boy at all times. Often my little boy will have a bit of a wiggle or cry in the middle of the night and it’s difficult to know whether or not to go in to him. With the video monitor I am now able to see if he’s lost his dummy or if he’s waking up for a feed.

Would you choose this product to win?

If I were to choose a baby monitor again for the first time, I would buy this one. The features are second to none and the parent screen is such a good size and amazing picture quality.

What changes would you make to this product?

The on/off button on the top of the hand-held parent screen – I have accidentally turned it off three or four times when picking up the monitor and think it would be much better placed on the side. I also think the price is a little high, but as mentioned above, the extra features make it worth it.

Tested by mum Sophie Smith for the Mother & Baby Awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

Yes I would definitely recommend this to friends and family as the design is great and the size is wonderful. The Panorama Digital Video Monitor is really easy to use and easy to transport. I also like the charging facility and that you can still use whilst charging.

How has this product made your life easier?

The Panorama Digital Video Monitor is great for use in the house and garden and need to keep an eye on your little one. The sound is very clear and the quality of the video is amazing. I love the fact that you can use the two-way talkback to speak to your baby and reassure them. Overall, this is a wonderful product for any mother.

Would you choose this product to win?

I would choose this product over the other monitors I’ve seen as I love the size of the screen and the camera quality is amazing. I also like the light on the camera which is great at night time when you need to get up for a feed.

What changes would you make to this product?

I feel that the camera needs a clip so you can clip the camera somewhere rather than drill holes in the wall. I do not have a table by my baby’s cot so I had nowhere to rest the camera. A clip would also be great for using the camera on the move with a travel cot.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would definitely recommend this product to other mums. The camera and quality is perfect for parents and the talkback zoom and night light are also a huge help for new mums. I love the additional features like a thermometer in the right-hand corner – particularly great for those sticky summer months.

How has this product made your life easier?

This product already makes my life easier as I can easily look up at the five-inch screen and check on my baby. It’s also lightweight meaning I can carry it from room to room.

Would you choose this product to win?

I would choose this over the other monitors I’ve used as it’s so clear and the zoom is perfect. Unlike other cameras I’ve used, you can scale the whole room instead of just zooming in on the baby. The talkback is nice and clear and the night light is perfect for checking on your baby in the middle of the night. The five-inch screen is perfect too as it allows you to capture the whole area of the cot and room.

What changes would you make to this product?

The only thing I would change about this product is the signal, as we did struggle to find an area in our home where the signal wouldn’t keep dropping out. Other than that I think the product is perfect.
