Ameda Lactaline Double Electric Breast Pump

The Lactaline Double Electric Breastpump by Ameda is easy to use, assemble and clean. It enables mums to pump one breast or both breasts simultaneously. The suction and speed can be selected from 32 setting combinations, including functions that stimulate let down and then express.

The smaller sized bottles mean that you only need one hand to pump; they also stand in the unit when not in use, which is great for storage purposes. The pump is not noisy and its small size makes it great for mums ‘on the go.’ It also operates with batteries or an AC power adaptor.

The suction cups are comfortable but would be more so with cushioned inserts, and the product comes with only one size breast cup; other sizes need to be purchased separately, as do teats for the bottles – a complete package would be convenient and better value, as opposed to purchasing a plethora of add-ons. All in all, a good pump that comes highly recommended.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I was very impressed by the Ameda Lactaline Double Electric Breast Pump. It's very easy to use and very hygienic. It's very compact so easy to take away with you. I would definitely recommend this product to another mum. You can easily adapt the suction and speed to what you are comfortable with and then just sit and let the pumps do the job.

How did this product make your life easier?

This is great because whether you want to go out and have a break from breastfeeding when out and about you can quickly and easily use this product just before going. Or whether you want to give your partner a chance to feed baby then it's great for that too. And gives you a break for maybe going and having a nap.

Would you choose this product to win?

This is a very unique and different product and I haven't seen another one like it on the market. You can adapt the settings for speed and suction to exactly what you like meaning it's comfortable for your needs. The HygieniKit milk collective system is brilliant for protecting against bacteria growing while pumping which is great.

What changes would you make to this product?

I really can't think of anything I would change about this product. It's a fabulous breast pump and it really has been made for a busy mum or any mum to be honest. It's quick and adaptable to each mum. It's extra hygienic and being a double breast pump saves so much time. All in all very happy with this.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

This is a really fantastic breast pump that is very easy to use and super efficient. The range of settings means that pumping is comfortable and allows you to fully drain each breast so you get a high volume of milk per pumping session. I used an electric single pump previously and will never go back - this double pump makes pumping much quicker and easier. I love that the bottles stand on the base so carrying it is easy and no risk of spillage.

How did this product make your life easier?

For me the Ameda Lactaline Double Electric Breast Pump more than halved the time I would normally need to spend expressing and it is invaluable as a mum of a newborn and toddler. It seems to be much more efficient than my usual pump and the range of settings makes it more comfortable to use. It has been an absolute essential piece of kit, allowing me to express enough so hubby can do a night feed!

Would you choose this product to win?

With my previous baby I used my Medela Swing and found it to be excellent. I would never have considered another pump until I was asked to test this one. I am a total convert - this product is a life changer! It is more efficient and so much quicker to use that I will never go back to using my old pump. It's quite simply brilliant.

What changes would you make to this product?

The only issue I've had is that the valves are very delicate and expensive to replace. One of mine tore when I was cleaning it and another just seemed to rip. It would be helpful given the price of the product to include more spare valves. It's really inconvenient to need to wait for new valves that can only be bought via mail order.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend this breast pump to other breastfeeding mums, as it was very easy to set up and use. The pump is very efficient, simple to use and easy to clean. Definitely makes everyday life easier as much quicker than manually expressing, the pump is very close to the quality of the pumps that they use on maternity wards.

How did this product make your life easier?

This double breast pump makes expressing much easier as using it is much quicker than manually expressing. It means that I can express quickly so I can carry on with my day to day tasks. It's also improved my supply of milk, so I now have milk stored for my son so I know we will have enough in case of emergency's.

Would you choose this product to win?

It is great that you can buy different sized flanges and change the suction level so you can custom the pump so that it really works for you!

What changes would you make to this product?

I think if anything could be improved with this product, I would change the volume that the bottles can hold. It's not a major problem, but would improve the product. The price of the product is also quite high, but I do think it's worth every penny as it does make life easier for everyone in my household!

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would have overlooked this product compared to other electric breast pumps, however I think this is one great piece of kit! i would highly recommend this breast pump as it does exactly what it’s supposed to do, and most of all the cost of this product is a lot more reasonable than other pumps out there. It’s straight forward to use and with a couple of goes I found it easy to clean and set up.

How did this product make your life easier?

After a couple of uses i found it great as it was easy to set up, I found the two options speed and suction great as once a flow was established it was easy to turn the speed up and made you feel in control. It became apart of my everyday routine. I found it comfortable and easy to use and the more I started using it the quicker each sitting was.

Would you choose this product to win?

This pump is most effective and my milk came in more since using the pump. Most of all the reason I would choose this pump is the overall cost of the product is a lot cheaper than other electric breast pumps on the market. You can also use other neck bottles with the pump which I found most handy as it only comes with two bottles.

What changes would you make to this product?

I found the suction was poorer when using both pumps at the same time. When I used just one pump the suction was a lot greater even when i closed the valve on the unused pump.

Why would you recommend this product to a friend/fellow mum?

Quick and easy to set up. Easy to read, clear and simple instructions. Great that it can be used with batteries. It is very light and not too many parts t loose. Works well as a single and double pump. I liked that I could manually adjust the speed and suction, but don't think that it really needs those settings. Others have a choice of three and work just as well. If I am really tired, I will not be bothered to mess with the multiple settings so it would be good if they could just adjust automatically. Easy to sterilize and is simple to put together. I liked the integral bottle stand.

How does this product make your life easier as a mum?

Integral bottle stand meant less parts cluttering up my bedside table. Double pump means more milk in less time so that is good. It is quiet too so less disturbance.

If you could change one thing about this product what would it be?

Provide some teats that attach to the bottles so that you can use the milk without having to transfer it. A choice of cup sizes with purchase rather than having to buy them separately.

Why would you recommend this product to a friend/fellow mum?

Looks the part, and works just as good as it looks. Easy to clean and sanitise, comfortable to use and gave me a great suction lock even if I relaxed position so it was great for reclining in bed and pumping. Maintained a steady flow of milk and ability to crank up the strength of suction but I rarely needed it on its fullest as the next one down was sufficient Nd comfortable (didn't hurt my breast on the strongest suction however) Lots of instructions make it simple to use for anyone. Bottles can be contained on the unit so it makes storage easy. It feels great quality and not flimsy. Lovely quiet motor.

How does this product make your life easier as a mum?

I can enjoy pumping and do it quickly to achieve a good output. It's easy to dismantle so I can also get it cleaned and sterlaised quickly and thoroughly.

If you could change one thing about this product what would it be?

A cushioned flange would be useful for those with bigger breasts as they aren't cushioned.

Why would you recommend this product to a friend/fellow mum?

This pump was extremely comfortable to use although the control dial was very sensitive.  It is a shame that the diaphragms are not attached as they fall off easily and can get lost.  The length of the tubing they have attached is great and very useful to allow me to put the pump slightly further away from my body.

How does this product make your life easier as a mum?

Expressing milk allows you to continue to give your baby breast milk while giving mums the freedom to leave them with friends and family who can feed with a bottle.  The double electric pumps enable you to do this quickly and easily.

If you could change one thing about this product what would it be?

I would firstly fix the diaphragms to the tubing would make life easier.  I would also change material to allow for use with a microwavable steriliser.  The instructions state not to.

Tested by Charlotte Pittal, 31, from London, mum to Isabella, 12 weeks:

Charlotte said: ‘This was easy to set up and simple to use. There are spares included for the smaller parts, which is handy.

‘It offers time efficiency as a double pump, but it can be used as a single pump too.

‘The suction wasn’t that strong even on the highest setting, though, and I had to hold it in place.’
