Frugi Little Sun Safe Suit at a glance
Known for colourful recycled outerwear and accessories, this season Frugi launches unisex swimwear ethically made from post-consumer polyester Repreve fabric. The process of turning discarded plastic bottles into high-quality fabric has a lower carbon footprint than virgin polyester and prevents waste going to landfill. In four playful prints, the all-in-one Little Sun Safe Suits for 0-4 years conforms to European Standard with UPF 40+ to protect delicate skin. The high neckline, 3/4 length sleeves and shorts keep elbows, knees and neck covered while the back-zip fastening with zip-guard and flat seems allow for easy dressing and reduced irritation.
We spoke to these real parent testers to get their review..
How did this product make your life easier?
Carlene: I love the little sun safe swimsuit, I have the one with the cute parrots on. It’s easy to put on and use and is a nice fit. My baby is 7 months old and I ordered size 6-12 months. The swim suit has a zip at the back making it easy to get on and off. It makes it easier to use as it’s all in one so you don’t have to worry about the shorts falling down
Marzia: The Little sun safe suit has been an absolute game changer during this hot weather in the UK. I have been putting it on my baby girl and I was left with simply having to put sunscreen on her face and feet because her body was protected by the suit. The time I have saved is indescribable. I am very happy and I have ordered more.
Karen: I liked that it offered some sun protection for my young daughter (age 1) in addition to being comfortable and that I knew once she had her suncream applied, this suit would offer some additional protection. We trialled it in our back garden during the sunny heatwave we have just enjoyed and it was great.
Would you recommend this to other parents?
Karen: Yes I would. I like the range of designs and the different styles, the quality of the item and the comfort aspect. It easily washes and quickly dries too, which is of course an added bonus for all us busy mums! It is a lightweight material, but it also means it's easily folded and can quickly be thrown in a bag for sunny beach days out.
Naviette: Yes I would recommend this product to a friend/fellow mum because of the protection it offers and it comes in a range of bright, fun designs. The fact that it is made out of recycled plastic bottles is great for the environment too. I would particularly recommend it to friends whose children have eczema/sensitive skin as the organic cotton in the product is supposed to be good for these conditions.
Carlene: I’m 50/50 to whether I would recommend this, although it’s a lovely design and a lovely feeling swimsuit I feel the big flaw with it is the fact you have to remove the swimsuit completely to change nappies. I am pleased that the swimsuit has been made from recycled materials so that’s a positive thing.
Would you choose this product above all others on the market?
Marzia: I personally think that The Little Sun Safe Suit should win because it really is a life saviour for this hot weather. It does protect you from the sun, so when you apply the sunscreen you don't have to worry about covering the baby with all that sticky cream. The zip at the back makes it very easy and quick to put on.
Abigail: The reason I would choose this swimsuit is for the design, especially the one I have reviewed being the elephant, as it has a high spf. As an added bonus is it is made out of recycled plastic bottles. I'm not sure on the price as it is slightly more than what I would want to pay and what I have paid previously.
Naviette: I would definitely choose this product. The designs are lovely and bright and the suit is comfortable for my toddler to wear. The fact that it is eco friendly is a real plus point and the UPF 50 protection is great for being out in the sun which saves you applying sun cream. Although the price is on the high side vs other comparable products, when looking online I found a number of retailers offering discounts which brings it in line with others.
What changes would you make to this product?
Naviette: I don't think I would change anything about this product, the only small thing is that the zip is at the back and on my child's other sun safe suit the zip is at the front, so that she can take it off independently. Similarly, I can imagine it being a struggle for parents whose children are still in nappies to get the whole suit off for a nappy change so maybe a fastening at the bottom would be helpful for smaller sizes.
Marzia: I wouldn't change anything about this product. I am really happy with it. I have decided to buy more so I can change all the different designs. I separately bought a matching hat. I would probably advise to sell the hat together with the The Little Sun Safe Suit so they come as one package and matching design.
Abigail: One possible change could be the zip on the front incase my daughter needs to go to the toilet. She could remove the swimsuit herself rather than me taking her to the toilet and assisting with the zip. I think children from 3+ should be encouraged to go to the toilet themselves as much as possible and with the zip being at the back it is not allowing independence. When my daughter put the costume on she asked where the zip was. If it was at the front she could dress herself.
