Do You Dress Your Baby Better Than Yourself?

With celebrity babies like North West and Harper Beckham toddling around in designer gear (and gracing the pages of Vogue), it’s no wonder that mums feel they need to invest more in their baby’s wardrobe

All mums love dressing up their kids and making sure they look adorable – so much so that seven in 10 mums admit their baby is better dressed then they are, a new survey has revealed.

A study of 500 new mums with children aged three and under, conducted by Persil Non-Bio and Comfort Pure, has uncovered just what new mums like spending their money on – and it isn’t themselves.

Almost three quarters of new mums admitted to thinking their baby should have a better selection of clothes than them. In fact, new mums spend half as much on their own wardrobe once they have a baby, splashing out only £29 a month after giving birth.

And one in three new mums said that their parenting duties leaves them with more important things to do than looking in the mirror. Those polled admitted to spending 64 per cent less time getting reading in the morning once they became a mum and only four to five minutes getting ready.

And 87 per cent said that high heels, statement jewellery and embellished tops aren’t needed any more. Yet 76 per cent claim to be bored of continuously wearing the same outfit.

But the new mums polled seem to lack inspiration with what to wear – as one in four admitted to having no suitable clothes for breastfeeding and 41 per cent didn’t want to wear anything tight.

The results of the study compelled the researchers to ask celebrity stylist and new mum Grace Woodward to put together a post-pregnancy style guide for new mums, titled Pram Glam. You can read it here.

‘Having had my little boy six months ago, I have struggled with the overhaul my wardrobe needed to help me look and feel great,’ says Grace. ‘I've compiled these style tips as I want mums to give themselves some attention too, so that they can celebrate their bodies and this new chapter in their live.

'After all, there's nothing more beautiful than self-confidence and the joy that comes from being a new mum.'
