At a glance:

Our panel of mum testers loved the look and feel of the Britax B-Ready, which can easily be converted to a double pushchair. Stand out features include the large shopping basket, the easy to use brake and the cute magnetic window on the canopy, which can be silently opened without waking your precious cargo!

What they say:

“Life changes. Children develop. Families grow. At Britax we believe your pushchair should be able to grow with you. That's why we designed the convertible, adaptable B-READY. A fully functional all-in-one pushchair capable of taking a newborn through to pre-school. With the ability to seamlessly convert into a streamlined, feature-packed tandem pushchair for siblings. And if life serves up a helping of twins? No problem - the B-READY is ready for anything - even a pair of newborns in matching carrycots.”

Would you recommend this to other mums?

The B-Ready is absolutely ace! It’s amazing if you have one or two children and has great versatility, and can be used in a wide variety of configurations. It has a large and convenient storage area, that can fit everything you need for a day out with one or two children in two. It is comfortable, secure and super easy to manoeuvre, with great suspension. I really feel like the B-Ready pushchair will last a long time.

How has this product made your life easier?

The Britax B-Ready has been well designed, feels safe and is super comfortable. It fully reclines which makes it easy to fall asleep in and there are several reclining positions, which can be adjusted with an easy to use mechanism. The large canopy is great at protecting my kids from the sun and the included rain cover conveniently fits away underneath the seat. The canopy has a peak-a-boo window made of mesh, allowing air to circulate inside and has a flap with a magnetic closure. I love the magnetic versus Velcro flap as it doesn’t wake my baby, a godsend! Finally, I love the one-foot, one-motion braking system, which is not only convenient to use, but a great safety feature as well. The B-Ready also has a coloured indicator which lets you know if the break is engaged or not – a great feature for those early days with a newborn!

Would you choose this product to win?

I’d give this pushchair top marks because it is almost perfect. It is on the heavier side, but I don’t think it could be any lighter without being unstable with the second seat. I’d definitely choose this pushchair if I was buying one now and I really wish I’d seen it when I was buying mine! As a complete travel system, it has everything for the first, and second child. I 100% want this pushchair to win a Mother & Baby award!

What changes would you make to this product?

I have absolutely nothing to suggest – I love this pushchair!

Tested by mum Lydia Tomicic for the Mother & Baby awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would definitely recommend this pushchair to a friend or fellow mum. It was easy to put together and has everything you need from newborn to toddler, as well as catering for any other children you might have. The Britax B-Ready is Really well-made and well-designed and it seems everything has been thought of, carefully and practically. I really wanted to throw my old pushchair out after the first day of testing!

How has this product made your life easier?

My current pushchair is so heavy and cumbersome compared to this one! It is easier to clean, which is a big plus and the adjustable canopy is great as I’m always forgetting the sunhats. I love not having to bend to push it, I can stand straight, which my back is extremely thankful for. Also, I added a universal branded buggy board for my older child and it fit perfectly and still allowed me to walk normally. The Britax B-Ready is super easy to collapse and put back to together, the parts just work. The brake is easy too, I use it all the time instead of holding on tight.

Would you choose this product to win?

I’d definitely choose this pushchair if I was buying one now and I really wish I’d seen it when I was buying mine. As a complete travel system, it has everything you could need for the first, and second child. It would be great if this pushchair won a Mother & Baby award as I’m so proud of it! I want to walk everywhere now! For me the best thing has to be the ease of taking it apart and putting it back together, not just because it’s one press, but because I don’t have to struggle with it, the system just works.

What changes would you make to this product?

The basket space underneath is fantastic, but when I’ve got both kids on in chairs I would have liked the handle bars to be slightly thinner to allow me to get my bag clasp on to carry the shopping – this is hardly a reason to criticise an otherwise perfect pram though!

Tested by mum Sarah Poynter for the Mother & Baby awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

This chair folds down with minimal effort and is really stable, even with two children, bags and picnic supplies. It doesn’t tip over with a changing bag on the back, even when both of my tots are not in their seats. The seat hoods are excellent at blocking the sun and rain from both chairs and I love the good-sized basket underneath the seats.

How has this product made your life easier?

This pushchair allows you to keep both seats attached when it is folded down and even with two seats, it is light enough to lift into the boot. It provides a stable chassis so my three-and-a-half-year-old can climb in and out safely. There’s a great hood on both chairs and the seats are comfortable and secure, with a five-point harness. I love the fact there is reclining seats on both chairs, offering multiple set ups and allowing children of different ages to use both seats interchangeably. I was very impressed by how easy the pushchair was to manoeuvre around shops and up and down curbs and pavements for a double buggy, which makes using in towns and cities much easier

Would you choose this product to win?

The chair can be put up and folded down with a few simple manoeuvres, and for a double buggy, it fits really easily into a standard hatchback. The multiple reclining options on both seats fives you a greater degree of flexibility, allowing you to change the pushchair to suit your needs.

What changes would you make to this product?

This pushchair is excellent in so many ways, but it can be quite heavy to use with two tots and luggage on board, although I guess this goes with the territory.

Tested by mum Emma Sims for the Mother & Baby awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would happily recommend this pushchair to friends because it is great value for money. It is fantastic to manoeuvre, it has a tight turning circle as well as being a dream to go up and down pavements (much better than my current pushchair). It is nice and light but feels sturdy whether you are pushing it or putting it in and out of the boot! I also thought the magnetic window was a nice touch and quieter when you want to check on your sleeping baby. For my taller friends, I would have to say the height alteration in the handle is very limited! However, the rain cover was much better than any other I have seen before as it is all in one, so you don't have to put one on at a time – brilliant idea, why didn't anyone think of this sooner?

How has this product made your life easier?

The Britax B-Ready pushchair's particular strengths are that the access to the seat for my preschooler was great as she could climb in herself. However, the access to get my toddler in the lower seat from above was very tight. It was very easy to put up and down, it is narrow and it only needed to be separated into two pieces to fit into my Golf boot perfectly. Everything (except the second seat) is very intuitive, but the second seat has to be removed to collapse the pushchair and it felt like it required a master’s degree in engineering to get it to separate from the frame! I am sure it would get easier with time, but each time I tried to remove it I had to refer to the manual to remember which three buttons to push in which order.

Would you choose this product to win?

I would not choose this product to win, but that is purely down to the personal choice that I feel pushchairs should be parent facing wherever possible to aid language development in toddlers. If this was an option, I definitely would – it is fantastic value for money, it looks great and is a lot narrower than competitors. It also has one full rain cover and easily fits in the boot of a standard size car.

What changes would you make to this product?

I would add an option to make the seats parent facing to aid toddler language development.

Tested by mum Laura Storr for the Mother & Baby awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I absolutely loved the look of this pushchair – the one we tested was bright red and the fabric was very high-quality. The shopping basket was really big, which was super helpful. I also found it surprisingly lightweight when transporting my six-month-old and three-year-old. The narrow design of the pushchair ensured that it was really easy to get through shop doorways. I would definitely recommend the Britax B-Ready as a first pushchair, as it is so easy to convert into a double if you have a second child.

How has this product made your life easier?

As a mum of two young children, the Britax B-Ready enables me to get to my destination faster as both children can happily sit in the pushchair together. There is a lot of choice in seating positions which also reduces the arguments of a highly opinionated three-year-old! It is really easy to click both the travel cot and the car seat straight onto the frame as you don't need to use separate attachments – this is also great when you're sleep deprived as it's one less thing I have to remember to pack!

Would you choose this product to win?

If I was to buy a pushchair then this would definitely be one that I would consider. I particularly like the fact that it is so easy to convert from a single to a double pushchair – this is such a useful feature and makes the pushchair great value for money. A lot of parents don't even consider that they might have another baby so soon after their first and this pushchair means it's so easy to avoid having to spend more money on other baby products. It is also really easy to attach the carrycot and the car seat without the need for separate adaptors. The seat is large enough for my three-year-old to be comfortable and the handle was easily adjustable for different heights.

What changes would you make to this product?

The size on folding was absolutely huge. I have a fairly average sized car and I couldn't fit the folded frame into my boot. I have no other double pushchairs to compare this to but it would mean it would be impossible for me to purchase this and use it without having to also buy a new, bigger car.

Tested by mum Rebecca Bailey for the Mother & Baby awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend this to a friend for its ease of use. It folds an unfolds very easily, it is lightweight and so easy to get in and out of the car. My husband if 6’4” and loved how high the handlebar can be raised. A big shopping basket is a huge positive for me, and I love that you can unzip it at the front of the basket so you can get shopping in and out with ease. It’s also easy to use as a tandem buggy with the second toddler seat and car sear.

How has this product made your life easier?

It makes life easier being a complete travel system, as I can transfer my sleeping baby in a car seat directly onto the chassis without waking him. I loved being able to turn the Britax B-Ready into a tandem pushchair, allowing me to keep my toddler and baby safe in one place – this is particularly useful in busy places.

Would you choose this product to win?

There were a couple of negatives with the product which is why I don't think it should win. I’ve previously used the Phil & Teds Explorer as a double buggy and in comparison, I don’t think the Britax B-Ready steers as well. I also found that when used as a double pushchair, the Britax felt very big and was almost impossible to steer one handed. Another negative in tandem mode is having my baby facing away from me in the baby carrier underneath, as I like to be able to see him at all times.

What changes would you make to this product?

As mentioned above, I think if something were to be changed it would be to make it a three-wheeler pram so that it's easier to push around in tandem mode. This isn't an issue as a single pushchair but it felt very heavy and difficult to push as a double.

Tested by mum Stacey Hiscoe for the Mother & Baby awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

The chassis folds smaller than others I have seen designed for this purpose and it is not too heavy to lift into the car. The choice of fabric colours allows the pram to be more personalised, and the seat fabric is very comfortable and easy to wipe. Also, the slate fabric on the model I tested has a mottled effect, which means that marks are very well hidden – perfect when you have a toddler on board!

How has this product made your life easier?

This pushchair gives lots of options to parents of twins or of siblings who would both require use of a pushchair. The chassis is a good height meaning that it would be comfortable for taller people to push. The hood is a good size and would be great for the summer, providing good sun protection, in addition to shading when baby is sleeping.

Would you choose this product to win?

This pram is good value for money compared to others is this category. My daughter was too big to use the carrycot, however being able to move the car seat onto the chassis makes it easy when out on a short journey. The pushchair seat itself is a good size meaning that my son and daughter were both comfortable in the seat. Also, the position of the bottom seat means that there is still a useable basket, unlike many of the other tandem prams on the market.

What changes would you make to this product?

I found the overall height of the pram challenging when set up in tandem mode as I am not that tall and found it difficult to see over the top seat, particularly with the seat in an upright position. However, a smaller chassis may impact on the other positive aspects of the product, so this might not be that practical!

Tested by mum Donna Robinson for the Mother & Baby awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend this product to a fellow mum as it's easy to put together and manoeuvre and isn’t as chunky as some of the prams I have had before. It has good tyres which fared well on our country roads. My daughter has got to an age where she does not like to sit in her pushchair, but she loved this one as she was at a good height and could see everything.

How has this product made your life easier?

I love the design of the product, but unfortunately it is far too big for my car (a Corsa), therefore taking it anywhere would be a problem. I had some initial problems getting the wheel base up but the instructions are easy to follow and I worked it out quickly. After they it was really easy to put up and fold away. It doesn't take up a lot of room so I found it is easy to store in our home, even though we don't have a lot of room.

Would you choose this product to win?

Personally, I wouldn't choose it as it is too big for our needs, however I would recommend it to family members who have twins as it’s a lovely pram and a lot slimmer than the double wheel based prams you see on the market. I really enjoyed using it and found it very light and easy to use. The break on the Britax is also great and the red and green indicators to show when the break is on or off is a handy extra.

What changes would you make to this product?

The only problem for me is the size I'm not sure if it could be reduced in any way, but overall I really liked the pram.

Tested by mum Vicki Anyon for the Mother & Baby awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

The Britax B-Ready has a lot of different combinations that you can adapt to suite your lifestyle, so in that respect is really easy to fit into your world with two children. However, I struggled to get my child into the bottom position and feel that they don't have a great view of the world with the second child above.

How has this product made your life easier?

It is useful to be able to transport two children at the same time but I didn’t enjoy the first child being so far in front of me.  For me, having a double pram is all about keeping your children safe and I didn't feel comfortable being so far away from the baby sat at the back.

Would you choose this product to win?

I think that there are other products on the market which I feel I would spend my money on. Overall it is the feel of the quality of the Britax B-ready that left me feeling disappointed. When turning corners, the handle felt flimsy and I felt they only turned the top of the pram but not the underneath part carrying the second child and therefore I don’t think it felt sturdy and safe.

What changes would you make to this product?

For me, I don't like that the Britax B-ready is in-line. I know that it has advantages in that it isn't as wide as a pram that has both seats side by side and therefore can maybe get through spaces a wider pram can't, however, for me I didn't like the front child being further away from me and the rear child having limited view.

Tested by mum Emma Bliss for the Mother & Baby awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend this pushchair to others. It can be folded up and down very quickly, it's also very easy to wash down and keep clean. The harness looked comfy the straps did not cause any rubbing, however I think it would be ideal if the buggy came with a head hugger for my youngest child

How has this product made your life easier?

This made life a little easier as it fits in the boot of a smaller family car easily, unlike a few of the side by side buggies I have seen. It also goes through doorways with no problems at all. My kids look very comfortable and cozy in this buggy and I’ve loved using it!

Would you choose this product to win?

I would choose this buggy over a side by side buggy. The design makes it very easy to move around and stops your older child harassing the sleeping baby! I love how easy the harnesses are fasten and undo and love the nice big basket underneath which is easy to access even with two children on board.

What changes would you make to this product?

The product is very nice and easy to use, but it would be nice to make the back of the upper seat a nice bright colour, so that the child underneath had something nicer to look at.
