What is the difference between a pram and a stroller?
Typically, a pram is most suitable for newborn babies. Why? It's is because they have been designed so your baby can lay flat. Whereas a stroller is an upright chair on wheels, which is better suited to a toddler. Traditionally prams were not suitable for older children, but many options have been adapted to evolve with your little one as they grow into a toddler. Some prams now have removable carry coats, which you can change for a seat in the future.
Unlike strollers, prams are usually larger and take up more space. They can be more difficult to close or fit into your car. To ensure that your little one is safe and comfortable while travelling, prams tend to be sturdy. But this means they can be heavy. Just because you are purchasing a cheap prams does not mean it will not be as effective as an expensive alternative.
Do you need a pram?
Yes. As a new parent, you will need a pram or a sling if you want to take your baby out. Although strollers can be cheaper, they offer less support to your new fragile baby.
For this reason, your new baby should be lying flat in a carrycot until they can support their own head. Cheap prams are often more feasible for parents on a budget as your child may move up to a stroller within the first year of their life.
1 Before use, always check all mechanisms are securely locked into place.
2 Put on your breaks whenever you stop.
3 Always stop on a flat even surface.
4 Don’t overload your pram with heavy bags.
5 Do not leave your baby in the pram unattended.
6 Let the airflow through your carrycot and avoid heavy blankets, toys or comforters.
7 Make sure your baby is at a comfortable temperature by checking their back or chest. Do not gauge your infant’s temperature by checking their hands as these will always be cooler than the rest of their body.
8 Dress your baby appropriately for the weather.
9 Always park your pram parallel to the road so that your baby cannot roll into danger.
