At a glance:

The responsive springs in this mattress encased in individual pockets provide the perfect support, whilst the outer cover offers a soft breathable sleeping surface which allows the free flow of air, keeping baby cool and regulating their heat. This sleeping surface is washable at 60oc, killing all germs and bacteria, and benefits from the anti-allergy Actipro treatment, making the mattress ideal for allergy sufferers. The core of the mattress is protected from the inevitable accidents by a waterproof, wipeable PVC cover.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

Phillipa: The main benefit to this product is how it has been made and with which materials. Safety has been considered throughout and safe, natural materials have been used. In addition to this, the mattress has a conveniently wipeable PVC cover which is great for when your baby has accidents. This is covered with a soft sleeping surface which can be unzipped and washed in the washing machine.

Charlie: I would recommend this product to other parents as it feels very good quality. It is useful that the cover can come off allowing this to be kept clean. The design seems good and fits well into the cot bed that we have. My daughter seems to sleep well on the mattress and it appears to be comfortable.

Chelsea: It is comfortable. It is much thicker than most cot bed mattresses. The top layer of the mattress unzips allowing it to be put into the washing machine. I still used a mattress protector although because of the ease to wash it you wouldn't necessarily need it.

How did this product make your life easier?

Libbi: This mattress is the best thing since sliced bread! It is so soft and springy. My daughter has slept better since we had it. It may seem a little pricey at £140, but you can definitely tell the difference between it and a £40 one. This has made my life so much easier because my baby has a much better sleep, every night so I am refreshed mummy.

Rebecca: This mattress is absolutely brilliant! Its made my daughter sleep so much better and she seems a lot more content when going to sleep. It's extremely comfortable and soft. It is lightweight but very safe and breathable. It has a waterproof lining which will be perfect for when we start toilet training!

Michaela: The Slumbertime luxury pocket sprung mattress has really helped with my baby daughters sleep. Since using the mattress she has slept throughout the night with no wake ups in between. My little girl enjoys her naps times and seems to have less interrupted sleep with this mattress. During the hot weather, she wasn't too sweaty as the mattress helps to keep her cool.

Would you choose this product to win?

Anarosa: I think this is a good, safe and honest product when used with the right guidelines. It looks and feels very cosy and snug. The material somehow makes it feel cool even on hot days or nights. I was unsure about the open coil spring but it still appears comfy and soft. It easy enough to wash the top bit which is handy. I really like the fact it has a natural anti-allergy treatment.

Laura: I would choose the Slumbertime Luxury Pocket Sprung Mattress above all others because of the care, dedication and attention to detail that Slumberland has put into the development of their cot mattresses. Reading about how the mattress has been developed with anti-allergy treatments, responsive springs, breathability and with no chemicals gives me a huge amount of reassurance.

Philippa: I think that a mattress is one of the most important purchases to get right when having a baby. It is so important to have a mattress that is safe. With that in mind, I would absolutely recommend this product to other parents. It has been made using natural and safe materials and fibres. It is also covered with wipeable PVC so that no accidents can damage the inside of the mattress. It lasts from newborn to five years old and comes with a two-year-guarantee!

What changes would you make to this product?

Sarah:  I don’t think I would necessarily change anything about this product. The pricing is a significant factor. This mattress is £140. On top of everything else you have to buy for a newborn, it can end up costing a lot. I feel this is why most parents go for a cheaper option. This is a great product with design, quality, comfort and practicality. However, the price does make me think differently as you try to save where you can.

Charlie: I can't think of anything I would improve about the mattress. It appears to be comfortable for my daughter and feels good quality. I would suggest making the price a bit more competitive as it is quite high. This might mean that parents look elsewhere for mattresses.

Chelsea: Price. If it was closer to £100 I think it would be more appealing to a wider market. The mistake I made initially was putting it into the cot upside down. There is a waterproof layer which I assumed was the top. As a result, my baby woke up sweating in the middle of the night. There were instructions but they were not particularly clear.
