As Google reveals ‘how to make slime’ is one of the most popular searches in 2017, if your little one’s haven’t asked you to make slime with them yet, they will be soon. Sure, you’d much rather it be fairy cakes, but it seems making this brightly coloured stretchy slime is a ten-year-old's dream right now, and we’re here to give you step by step instructions.
One YouTube video in particular has had over fourteen million views, which gives you a recipe for slime without borax or starch. Borax, or Sodium Tetraborate as its scientifically known are soft white crystals used in many slime recipes. Whilst slime is fun to play with, a few parents have complained about recipes containing Borax, which has irritated their childrens’ skin, so it’s best to look for chemical free slime recipes.

How to make slime safely
Luckily for you, slime can be made using safe ingredients such as potato starch, sugar, food colouring and even shaving foam. The recipe used in the YouTube video above only requires you to use PVA glue, water and salt, with added extras including food colouring and glitter to make the slime look more exciting.
The steps in the video are as follows:
Pour the PVA glue into a glass bowl
Add the food colouring of your choice to make the slime a more interesting colour
Stir the food colouring into the glue
Add glitter if wanted
Add two large teaspoons of water
Cover the surface of the slime with iodised salt
Cover the bowl with cling film
Put the slime in the microwave for three minutes, then leave to cool
Stir and leave to cool – the slime should sink to the bottom of the bowl, with the water sat on top
Pour out the water and combine the slime by squeezing it with your hands
Give to your child to play with
