3 sleep essentials from The Gro Company to keep your baby safe and warm

As a parent, it can be difficult to know what the best thing is for your baby to wear to bed. This can be especially difficult during weather conditions that are out of the norm, i.e. very hot summers and very cold winters. With winter now in full swing and households getting chilly, we’ve put together a few of our favourite sleep essentials to keep your baby safe and warm.

Let’s start with the temperature. The Lullaby Trust, the UK’s leading safe sleep charity, recommend 16-20°C as the ideal temperature for the room that baby sleeps in. We know that this is not always possible and there are solutions for rooms that are outside of this recommendation – so don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!

You’re probably wondering, how on earth am I supposed to tell the temperature of the room? Well, the simple answer is a room thermometer! The Groegg2 is a unique room thermometer which communicates temperature by both digital display and colour changes. For example, 16°C and under will make the Groegg2 glow blue, whereas temperatures over 24°C will make it glow red. We think that this is fantastic, as it allows you to know exactly what temperature the room is with just a glance, giving you peace of mind that your baby is sleeping safely.

Once you know the temperature of the room, the question becomes: what should my baby wear to bed? The safest thing for babies to wear to bed is a baby sleep bag; our personal favourite is the Grobag. It meets all of the relevant safety standards and is the only baby sleep bag recommended by The Lullaby Trust, so you know that your baby will be in good hands. Not to mention the super cute designs! Grobags come in different tog ratings, including 0.5, 1.0, 2.5 and 3.5, which cater for all different temperatures. Grobags are designed as a safer alternative to sheets and blankets. The 3.5 tog Grobag is perfect for rooms 16°C and under, which definitely comes in handy during these colder months.

In colder temperatures, baby’s arms can feel cold compared to the rest of their body, naturally spiking worry in mums that their little one is too cold. Rather than using a blanket to try and resolve this, you can use sleepsuit with thicker sleeves. The Grosuit is a sleepsuit with quilted sleeves to keep baby’s arms warm in cold temperatures, making sure they stay safe and warm through the night.

Gro have created a super helpful what to wear guide, full of lots of information on the best thing for your baby to wear to sleep. You simply enter your little one’s age, weight and the temperature of the room they sleep in and the guide will then tell you exactly what your baby needs to wear to bed. The guide covers everything from which tog Grobag you need down to what baby should wear underneath. We absolutely love this handy guide and think that you will too!
