Organix family day out with the gruffalo

Molly Forbes

Back when I was pregnant I remember being so excited about future family days out and trips to theme parks and farms as a mum. My baby was only a few weeks old when we took her on her first big outing and, typically, she slept through the whole thing. But now that baby is six and her little sister is two, family days out are a whole different story. It’s what memories are made of, and we find getting out of the house and exploring somewhere new always brings us closer together as a family.

My idea of a perfect day out and my kids’ idea of a perfect day out isn’t always compatible though. For example, the dream of a relaxing picnic at the beach is often far from the reality of sandy sandwiches.

So I was delighted to hear about the latest Organix offer.  When you buy selected multipacks of Goodies snacks, there’s a voucher you can cut out, giving one adult or child free entry to Chessington World of Adventures Resort (or Alton Towers or Sea Life Centre Bray) until 30th April next year.  All you need to do is buy another full price adult ticket at the entrance – now that’s a small win!

So off we went on a trip to Chessington World of Adventures Resort, and what a success – there was something for everyone and we were all happy.

Both my girls were desperately excited to check out the new Gruffalo River Ride Adventure at the park and it didn’t disappoint.  Even my husband was taken in by the incredible effects and immersive experience of the ride.

Going on the ride is like stepping inside the pages of the Julia Donaldson book, with the sounds, sights and even smells of the story brought to life. The girls both loved getting wet (and found my screams at the “rain” hilarious) and relished the slightly spooky atmosphere and seeing their hero the mouse outwit all the scary animals in the wood.  It’s by far the best ride I’ve ever come across that pleases not only the older kids and adults but babies and toddlers too.

For lunch, we had a picnic we bought at Chessington, which included some Organix no junk healthy snacks. We bought two Kids’ Meal Deals from one of the food outlets which meant we could avoid any queues and eat our lunch on a blanket in the sunshine. It was a great small win moment for me, because I’d not been organised enough to pack a full picnic the night before.

I know for my girls it’s always a good idea to keep some of the Goodies treats in my bag in case of an emergency when out and about.  This time, the leftover snacks from the picnic came in useful on the journey home too, to distract two very tired and slightly grumpy children who didn’t want the fun to be over!
