Lucy reviews the Apptivity Monkey
The Fisher-Price Apptivity Monkey, priced around £35, is a soft, comforting toy that you can place an iPhone or iPod Touch into. When your baby squeezes the monkey's hands and feet it activates the device so your baby can interact with the different apps on the phone to keep her entertained. We asked Lucy Lord, 26, from Leeds to review it with her daughter Scarlett, six months.
My first thought when I saw the Apptivity Monkey was what a beautiful snuggly toy it was bright and colourful, as well as being suitable for a boy or girl. As soon as I showed it to my daughter Scarlett she was bouncing on my lap, ready to play.
Each paw of the toy has an easy-to-squeeze interactive function which sets off silly sounds and educational songs from the iPod on its tummy. I'm the first to admit that I'm not overly keen on my baby playing with my iPhone, but after downloading the app (which was free and easy to do) my worries were long gone.
The games are delightfully simple yet engaging and "where's puppy's nose?" is now a firm favourite with Scarlett and her three-year-old brother. And with a dribble and shockproof case, there's no harm done to your phone. Overall, it's a hardwearing, educational and fun toy that will last for years.
