Editor's Shopping Basket: Our picks from ASDA's newborn range

Editor's Shopping Basket

In the hot seat this month and straight from Mother&Baby's Editor' shopping basket, Maria Martin shares what she's got her eye on - all things newborn related.

Taking a look at what ASDA have on offer, Maria has picked a range of newborn essentials to help you when buying for your new arrival.

Nappies

Well, this one does what it says on the tin…newborns need nappies and these are just great value and good quality for that stage of your baby’s life.

Soothers

Not for every newborn, my son really didn’t want the dummy at all, however many of my friend's babies have used them and I know they can be a great comforter for your little one. These from ASDA are great value and come in a handy steriliser case as standard.

Feeding kit

If you’re looking for a starter kit for your new baby, this set has everything you could need. I still use my set for my son and he’s now 18 months old. All I needed to change as he got older were the bottle teats.

Extra bottles and perhaps a nice option if you’re combination feeding

As your baby gets older you may find you need a couple more bottles, ASDA’s wide neck feeding bottles could be just the trick for you, they’re also good value for money. A wider neck bottle may also be the route to consider if you’re combination feeding your baby.

Bit of tech

If you’re looking for a fancy bit of tech that actually comes in useful, then here's one for those night feeds you'll no doubt be familiar with. It's the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Perfect Prep Machine. You’ll need to change your filter every month or so, but you can always grab an order in from Amazon for those.

Moses basket

For me, a Moses basket is just a must-have when your newborn arrives! My son used his for the first 6 months and he could nap in it during the day in one room and then sleep in it at night when he was in my room. We didn’t put up the cot until after 6 months.

Sleepsuits

Sleepsuits are also a must-have for your newborn, and they're great for all day long (not just for sleep)! My son was always in a sleepsuit, the perks of being a baby, eh? If you know me, you’ll know I love a bit of colour (and a value pack) and this set is just that.

Vests

You will most definitely need vests! You literally aren’t allowed to leave the hospital without your baby in the right clothing. Your newborn will most probably live in a vest and bodysuit for the first 3 months of their life, at least. We must have had about 14 vests that we used on my son at the start. These are just super cute and my son used bodysuits from George ASDA until he was at least 10 months old. I love a dash of colour and these bright colours make me super happy… You can opt for the short sleeve or vest style bodysuit.

Car seat

If you’re planning on taking your baby on car journeys, a car seat is also a must. So ensure you do your research and pick one that suits you. We opted for a Joie Spin-360 one for our son which saw him from newborn straight through into his almost 2-year-old self. He still uses it to this present day. There really is almost too much choice on the market for car seats and my number one tip would be to pick one with an Isofix as standard for extra security. Browse ASDA’s selection for their Isofix-compatible baby car seats.
