The Mother&Baby Award Winners 2014

Section: Shopping Ideas

We celebrated the top maternity, baby and toddler brands, as voted by our panel of mum testers – and readers. Here’s what happened…

The annual Mother&Baby Awards were held yesterday and this year it was a double celebration as it was the 20th anniversary of the event.

M&B’s editor Claire Irvin took to the stage to hand out awards to the top parenting brands – as voted by you. Accompanied by comedian Alun Cochrane, the pair revealed who won gold, silver and bronze in 36 different categories, the shortlist of which you can see here.

At the beginning of the night, Claire gave out a very special award to Britain’s Bravest Mum. And the winner’s story moved us all.

Jennie Henley experienced a tough journey into parenthood, with four unsuccessful cycles of IVF before conceiving twins on her fifth cycle. The pregnancy progressed well until, at 25 weeks, Jennie became ill and had to have emergency bowel surgery while carrying her babies. She survived the surgery and continued to carry the twins until 27 weeks and three days when her babies Esther and William were born prematurely. The twins then spent 59 days in hospital before starting a difficult first year at home.

Esther and William weren’t able to go outside in the cold and weaning was a challenge as both twins weren’t able to fully sit up. Then just after the twins turned one, Jennie discovered she was pregnant again. Her daughter Matilda Mae was born on her due date but devastatingly died at nine months old from Sudden Infant Death.

Jennie and her husband experienced the greatest loss but used their experience to fundraise tirelessly for charities Bliss and The Lullaby Trust, raising an amazing £25,000 through sponsored walks, an auction and a skydive. Jennie also has a blog called Edspire where she writes about her efforts and parenting in general. There’s no question that Jennie is a well-deserved winner.

Following this incredibly moving story, the Mother&Baby Awards 2014 were announced.
