Baby-free windows are rare and hard to come by, that's why we have hunted around for the most relaxing and indulgent getaways for new mums. In this week's hot seat we review Mercure Gloucester Bowden Hall...
One of the Cotswold's most popular hotels has launched an exclusive, limited edition Woodland Wildlife package, paying homage to both the stunning surroundings and literary legend Beatrix Potter. Bookworms, rejoice!
The package, available until the end of September, includes a bespoke walking map giving guests the chance to discover some of the Gloucestershire wildlife that inspired your favourite novels. After the nature ramble, relax with a sumptuous, family friendly afternoon tea at the hotel inspired by some of the author’s best-loved characters, and served on creature crockery.
The 4-star Mercure Gloucester Bowden Hall is refreshingly quiet and relaxing, meaning it's the perfect getaway for couples who need a break from a disgruntled toddler's screaming, 'mummy!!'
The Mercure Gloucester Bowden Hall is nestled on the outskirts of Gloucestershire and only a 20-minute drive from both Gloucestershire and Cheltenham town centre, meaning you have plenty of options for dining if you don't want to stay in the hotel.
We were a huge fan of shabby chic decor which felt alluringly cosy after our afternoon walking tour. The rooms were moderately sized, with a soft colour palette and the Beautix Potter-inspired touches made our stay feel homely, despite being half the country away.
Let's talk food
As part of the Woodland Wildlife package, we enjoyed an afternoon tea which was jam-packed (literally!) with a variety of cakes and scones. There were snackable sandwiches with different fillings (including vegetarian options) and prosecco was available at an extra cost. The portion sizes for the afternoon tea are incredibly generous, so make sure you leave some room! You can also have dinner at the hotel and there is a buffet breakfast spread for guests to enjoy the next day.
The Woodland Wildlife package at Mercure Gloucester Bowden Hall is the latest in a collection of locally inspired packages and events which are part of the Mercure Hotels Local Stories campaign which explores and celebrates the property’s connection to the local area.
