New Mum's Retreat: The Spa at Carden, Cheshire

Section: Travel

Baby-free windows are rare and hard to come by, that's why we have hunted around for the most relaxing and indulgent getaways for new mums. In this week's hot seat we review The Spa at Carden...

The 1000 acre estate, hidden in the Cheshire countryside, is the perfect reside from any busy city/routine.

With a grand mile-long driveway (adds a wee bit more to the taxi fare, but reaffirms how deliciously remote the complex is) and gorgeous views of the surrounding woodland, this is the perfect location for a weekend spa break.

The highlight is definitely the brand-new, £10m luxury spa, which boasts two large vitality pools, a glamorous beauty lounge, soothing relaxation spaces, one of the UK’s largest spa gardens and an all-weather Bollinger champagne bar.

The hotel is a stone's throw from Chester and 40 minutes from Crewe train station and only a few hours train ride from London Euston.

As we said, the spa is a definite highlight. Our favourite features included the Love Island-esque spa garden (complete with fire pit), the spa restaurant, Element with stunning views and the Signature Oskia Glow Facial which was 90 minutes of pure bliss.

The clever garden can be enjoyed no matter the weather (we went on a very fresh day in January) and the spa's interiors comprise of earthly tones and modern statement furnishings which provoke a sense of tranquil.

Facility-wise, there are 14 treatment rooms, an extensive thermal suite with vitality pool, heated relaxation beds, a Finnish sauna, Bio sauna,  Ice fountain, Experience showers and Salt steam room; a choice of relaxation areas and rooms for socialising or deep and sensory relaxation; a large spa garden with fire pit, garden sauna, three outdoor hot tubs, five individually themed garden pods, over 60 outdoor loungers and an outdoor vitality pool with views out over the Cheshire countryside. Phew!

Spacious but cosy, you will have your best night's sleep ever whilst curling up on their king-sized beds. Expect all the usual amenities, now add a huge TV with SKY, views over the Nicklaus golf course and complimentary ESPA toiletries. Ah, we feel zen just thinking about it.

Food and drink

The onsite restaurant Redmond’s is perfect for date night. The ingredients are locally sourced from Cheshire, North Wales and the North West and wow, the food is incredible. We were also impressed with the vegan options available and the service was sublime (thank you, Jacob!)

The perfect evening activity after a hard day of relaxing. Oh, go on then!
