Summer Activities For Kids – Be Creative With Your Living Room

*Disclaimer* This activity isn’t the best idea if you have visitors coming round in the next hour and want to offer them somewhere to sit/stand

Getting your kids active doesn’t always mean leaving the house, especially if the weather’s miserable. Time to introduce your little ones to… The Living Room Fort.

AKA finding things around the house and creating a play area (but Living Room Fort is way more fun). Putting sofa cushions along the floor to make stepping-stones or a moat, and two chairs together with a sheet draped over them to form the castle. You can use anything that encourages your child to use her imagination as you make up a story and different characters while you play.

Or, go down the obstacle course route. Turn some large (empty) plant pots upside down and lay a broom across to make a little jump, or organise an egg (ball… less mess) and spoon race from one end of the room to the other.

You could even use the sheet from this morning’s castle to create a DIY scramble net – loosely weigh it down on each side with heavy books, leaving a good amount of space so your toddler can crawl underneath it.

And three key words for the competitive ones among you? Just. A. Game.
