Plan a short break away and enjoy a French fairy tale - read our tester's review of this French family chic retreat
Jo Bounds stayed at Chateau Les Carrasses in the south of France with daughter Fawn, five.
Château Les Carrasses offers a dream family set-up. After arriving at Perpignan airport we drove through the vineyards and canal-side villages until we set eyes on the Disney-esque castle in its tree-filled grounds.
We pulled up outside our self-catering studio with its private garden. Inside, there are two bedrooms and a fully-equipped kitchen. If you need them, cots and high chairs are available at no extra cost.

We were happy to hang out at the chateau – as well as swimming, there’s a volleyball court which doubled as a sandpit. If you want to venture further afield, you can journey through the pretty surrounding Languedoc countryside, exploring pretty towns and villages like nearby Narbonne.
One evening we decided not to cook and we discovered there’s a pizza ordering service at reception. Have these people thought of everything?
I’ll definitely be coming back – next time I’m going to blow the budget and book one of the studios with a pool. Now that would be heavenly!
