Babymoon ideas: The Runnymede on Thames, Egham

Section: Travel

Looking for the perfect babymoon break before your impending arrival? We recommend a staycation at The Runnymede on Thames, which has riverside rooms, pregnancy massages and a superb fine-dining restaurant perfect for date night.

Tempted? Here's Mother&Baby's review:

Overview:

The Runnymede on Thames is a coveted babymoon destination thanks to its picturesque views, ample grounds and comfortable guest rooms. The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool, luxurious spa and fitness centre and sensational restaurants – think: fancy fine-dining and a relaxed buffet - prepare to feel very spoilt and indulged before the baby arrives. Ah, if we must!

Location:

The Runnymede Hotel is situated in Egham, Surrey and is only 40 minutes from London's Waterloo.

Rooms:

With muted hues and extra pillows, the rooms are the place you'd want to curl up for days if you had half the chance. Some come with glorious views of the river (we recommend if you can) and all have the usual amenities including wifi, coffee maker and tv, plus complimentary bottled water. You can choose from double to deluxe which are both family and dog-friendly!

Spa facilities:

The spa comes with an indoor exercise pool, whirlpool, marble eucalyptus steam room, infrared and pine saunas and restful chill-out room with newspapers and complimentary drinks. In the summer there is even an outdoor hot tub nestled on the riverbank.

There are treatments available for both women and men and the spa uses products from luxury brands Guinot, ESPA and Jessica.
We tried a pregnancy massage which was so relaxing we may have fallen asleep (oops!) The masseuse spent ages expertly rubbing away any aches and pains with warm oil (that's safe to use during pregnancy) and ended with a scalp massage and a mini facial.

Food and drink:

Guests have the choice between dining at The Lock Bar and Kitchen restaurant, informal dining and a buffet selection at the Leftbank or smaller bites at The Lounge. We had a three-course dinner at The Lock & Bar restaurant and were impressed with how attentive and friendly the staff were. We opted for steak and vegetable pasta which was anything but standard. Dessert was a dark chocolate and walnut tart with praline sauce and creme fraiche.

Breakfast was a buffet full English favourites (even veggie sausages!) and there were cereals, yoghurt and fruit available too.

The Babymoon weekend break at The Runnymede is the perfect short getaway for couples to enjoy and relax before the birth. The package is priced from £375 (per couple) and includes:

  • Overnight stay in one of the cosy double rooms
  • Dinner in The Lock Bar and Kitchen
  • Breakfast in the riverside restaurant Leftbank
  • A spa treatment each
  • Full use of the luxury spa facilities
