Back to school supplies for little rucksacks

Section: Nursery & School
Back to school? Super stuff to fill their rucksacks with

We know going back to school, or returning to nursery, is going to be a bit different this year. After the last few months of upheaval, the only way to be prepared, is, well, to be prepared.

Whether it’s your little one’s first day in Reception class, or they are heading back after the (very long) summer break, we’ve rounded up some of the best school gear in the shops to make that transition from summer fun to school days as smooth as possible. From pencils to notebooks, lunch boxes and rucksacks, make that back to school journey an easy one with our product gallery.

With all the new restrictions and guidelines, you're likely to need duplicates of stationery, and look for anything that's easy to clean or washable.

Your little ones won’t mind the first day back when they’re got a cool new backpack to tote. Treat them to new kit for the new term and maybe – just maybe – it won’t be so hard to say your goodbyes at the gate…

A new lunch box is a must, especially if we're not sure whether the school canteen will be open. This Bento box is cute and brightly coloured, with compartments for all their different foods. Also comes with little cutlery so they won't have to share.

Some schools are asking for lunch to be provided in washable, reusable bags, so these are really handy. Easy to clean and wash, they keep your little one's food safe and protected. You can wash them by hand or even in the dishwasher.

We love these retro drawstring bags for their cute cartoon characters and complete lack of bells and whistles. Soft, spacious and oh-so-simple. Perfect for little hands to manage too: no fiddly zips.

This cute, easy-to-wipe owl lunch bag is bound to make your little one look forward to lunchtime. Designed in Australia, we love the 3D ears and the insulated bottle holder that will help keep your tot's water cold until lunchtime.

Tesco Leo Bancroft Kids Narrow Bands Aqua Mix 20 Pack

Where DO all those ponytail ties go? Is there a multicoloured mountain of them somewhere, waiting patiently to be collected? Buy in bulk is our advice: these sets from Tesco should see little one through the first term.

Too sweet. These knee socks come in packs of threes and a range colours, at a bargainous £4.50.

Designed for nursery-age children, these delightfully soft furry backpacks come with detachable reins so you can keep your toddler safe in busy places. A cuddly toy, bag and safety measure all in one.

Your littlle one might not be able to share the school's pens and pencils this year, so load up their pencil case with super-cool highlighters that they'll love to make notes with.

The ultimate set of stationery for a little one starting school - with 18 pieces, including notebooks, pencils, pens, a pencil case, and stickers.

A pack of colouring pencils is a must-have for a little one's pencil case - plus, you can get 3 for 2 on 'Back to School' supplies at Paperchase at the moment.

Love Skip Hop. Love Sloths. Want one of these for myself. Might buy one, and give the little man something else to carry his lunch in.

A water bottle is essential for your child to stay hydrated while they're at school, and with this make you can choose between a range of fun designs from zebras to unicorns.

A bright and cheery little notebook, perfect for little hands. Something to bring a smile to the face of anyone starting back to school after such a strange year.
