Once you decide you're ready for your longed-for baby, it's as if you're racing against time to conceive, and nothing else matters (when of course, your happiness and health are paramount!)
All that pressure to conceive on your shoulders (and let's face it, it's mainly you who will be worrying), it's hard to relax. And stress is not ideal for baby making...
Here are five expert ways to deal with stress when trying to fall pregnant...
4) Ace your bedtime routine
They're not just for babies
– adults need wind-down time too. Plus, you need a good amount of sleep to stay healthy and energised every day, particularly as stress can be draining.
Declutter your bedroom and make it an oasis of calm. Make it look and smell nice, and ditch anything stimulating before you're about to go to sleep, like The Returned box set or the latest celebrity gossip on your iPad. Have a warm bath, drink some warm milk and settle down into a warm duvet. Sex is good, but don't force yourself if you're not up for it!
5) Be really good to your body
It's tempting to speed-eat doughnuts and take up a five-a-day caffeine habit when we're stressed but it won't be doing you any favours. You'll feel worse, lack energy and feeling positive will be a whole lot harder.
Get your proper five a day (more if you can), stock up on prenatal vitamins and check your iron and vitamin D levels. You're prepping your body for an important job, so exercise too. Just a half hour walk in the fresh air will boost your feel-good hormones, work wonders for your stress levels, and will make sure you stay physically healthy too.
